2008 Season Update #1

Supermoto USA Round #1 - Reno-Fernley Raceway, Fernley, NV - March 29-30

Round one of the SupermotoUSA Norcal series was held at Reno-Fernley Raceway in Fernley, NV.  This is favorite track for many of the riders, due to its elevation changes and wide, smooth, flowing racing surface.  My 450 worked flawlessly this weekend, and I got the holeshot in every start except for one.  I ended up finishing 4th in both the 450 and Expert classes.  Unfortunately, my undefeated streak in the mini motard class has come to an end.  I had a bad crash in the first corner of the heat race and had to return to the pits to make repairs.  That put me last on the grid for the main and I made it up to 2nd place by the 2nd or 3rd lap, but by then Vincent Guisande had such a huge lead, there was no way I could catch him and I had to settle for second place.

Supermoto USA Round #2 - Infineon Raceway, Sonoma, CA - April 13

The Jim Russell Karting Center at Infineon raceway was the venue for SupermotoUSA Norcal Series round 2.  We have raced at this track a few times before but this round was run under a completely different track configuration.  It was extremely tight and technical, and it was difficult to pass on this track.  I won the 450 heat race, but Casey Yarrow got the best of me in the main and I ended up 2nd.  In the expert class, I was running comfortably in 3rd, but my front tire just completely let go after the 2nd lap.  I had to concede 3rd place to Michael Hannas and I finished the main in 4th place.  I was looking forward to a real battle with Vincent Guisande in the mini motard class, but unfortunately he was out due to injury.  I was able to win the class with a comfortable lead, but I can't wait for the chance to battle with Vincent when he recovers from injury.
